Laser Hair Removal

LASER HAIR REMOVAL

  • COPE National recognizes laser treatment for unwanted hair growth as another method for hair removal. A hair removal clinic that combines both electrolysis and laser can offer a distinct and effective marketing advantage.
  • The FDA has granted approval to some lasers for their research and technology which has proven effective for permanent hair reduction.
  • Permanent hair reduction is generally defined as the duration of two active growing cycles of hair. The speed at which laser can treat hair on large areas is impressive. However, this is not a quick fix.
  • Laser treatments are not for everyone. The laser will not be an effective method for removal or reduction of unwanted hair that is pigmented grey, white, blonde or some red. There is no laser that can effectively treat every hair type, whereas electrolysis effectively treats all hair types resulting in permanent removal.
  • During laser treatments the hair is left in the follicle so the client has bristles on skins surface until the hair eventually sloughs off.
  • During electrolysis treatments the hair is removed resulting in a smooth skin surface.
  • If you are considering laser treatment, ensure the company you are dealing with offers a comprehensive treatment program. Good assessment and diagnosis by a properly and well-trained technician will impact the final results for you.
  • Consumers be-aware that there is much misleading information regarding laser treatments for hair removal. Many clinics use devious tactics in advertising and make statements against electrolysis and other personal services as painful and shocking. Beware of companies offering lifetime guarantees for permanent hair removal and misleading claims of the number of treatments required for permanent hair reduction. Expect far beyond 4 treatments. Typically 6 to 12 or more laser treatments are required.
  • There are several types of lasers on the market used for hair removal including Ruby, Alexandrite, Diode and Nd:Yag. ONLY the Nd:Yag lasers and Diode lasers will allow treatment on all skin types (Fitzpatrick 1-IV) in addition to tanned skin. Systems with FDA clearance for the above hair removal treatment parameters include the Altus CoolGlide, Laserscope Lyra and Lightsheer Diode from Lumenis. COPE National will keep you informed as new information is made available to us.
