Electrolysis

A highly skilled technician inserts a fine filament down the hair shaft which is accomodated by the flexibilty of the skin. She then administers treatment to coterize the tissue and removes the hair thus allowing the opening to heal closed. Treatment is required on each hair and some may require retreatment until growth stops.

Facts on Electrolysis

1. It is the only permanent hair remover for all types of hair.

2. There are 3 methods:
    (a) Thermolysis
    (b) Electrolysis
    (c) Blend

The Thermolysis Method is coterization by heat. A high frequency oscillating current called shortwave produces flash heat. This process is fast but requires many follow-up treatments.

The Electrolysis Method is coterization by direct current (galvanic) reacting on salts of the body to form a solution which destroys the follicle. This process is very slow and not widely used today.

The Blend Method combines electrolysis with thermolysis thus accelerating the process time. This method is more effective on larger and difficult hair. The total treatment time is substantially reduced and follow-up treatments are few. Highly recommended because of its effectiveness.

Questions

Q. Is electrolysis permanent?

A. Yes, it does take a series of treatments depending on method used and cause of condition. If other than hereditary.

Q. What causes excessive hair growth?

A. There are many reasons which include hereditary, medical, stress, drug side effects, hormonal imbalance. Many women share this common problem as do some men.

Q. Is electrolysis safe?

A. Yes, electrolysis is now acknowledged by the medical profession and many individuals are referred by doctors. Also high standards of sterlization and sanitation are employed.

Q. Does it hurt?

A. Each individual's tolerance is different. Some sleep during treatment while others experience minor discomfort.

Q. Is age a factor?

A. No. Hair may develop at any age but can be successfully treated. Parental consent may be required for children.

Q. What does it cost?

A. Cost depends on size of area, density of growth, method of treatment, cause for condition and past temporary removals such as waxing, tweezing or cream dipilatories. Also whether there exists a health disorder.

Q. How long will treatment take?

A. Treatment time will vary according to individual needs. As well, cause for growth, area size, density, method of treatment and regularity of follow-ups.

Q. How do I find a qualified electrologist?

A. You are fortunate to have a National association whose members are fully qualified. You may phone 1-800-665-2673 for names of members throughout Canada.

*ALWAYS ASK FOR ELECTROLOGISTS CREDENTIALS*

*ALWAYS INSIST ON YOUR OWN INDIVIDUAL NEEDLE*
